O2 Mobile Broadband Settings

Mobile Broadband is a great way to access the Internet when out and about, or at home. You can browse, check email, chat or download small music and video files. You don’t need a BT landline and can choose from Pay-as-you-go, or a 30 day or 18 month package. Simply pick the tariff that’s right for you, plug the dongle into your laptop, then surf away! Before you buy Here's a checklist of some things you will need to consider before you buy one of our mobile broadband packages.

Pay Monthly or Pay & Go? :- If you're a regular user, you might be happier signing up to a longer contract. We offer 1GB or 3GB plus unlimited Wi-Fi on our 18 month packages, including a free dongle. Choose from 1GB or 2GB (get 3GB until 30/10/2010) plus unlimited Wi-Fi on our 30 day packages. Depending on your requirements, you can also choose a Pay Monthly package which includes a laptop.

Buy with laptop Buy without laptop:- If you only need mobile broadband access occasionally, then Pay & Go would be great for you. Get online from just £2 per day once you've bought your dongle for £19.99. Buy data access on a daily or monthly basis, giving you either 200MB plus unlimited Wi-Fi (get 500MB until 30/09/2010), or 2GB (get 3GB until 30/09/10) plus unlimited Wi-Fi.

System requirements
:- For mobile broadband to work on your laptop, you'll need to check you have the following minimum system requirements: * Windows: XP Service Pack 2 (32 bit) * Vista Service Pack 2 (32 & 64 bit) * Windows 7 (32 & 64 bit) * Processor: 500Mhz and above * System Memory: 128MB (XP) or 512MB (Vista) * Hard Disk Space: 150MB, RAM: 1GB * Internet Explorer 6.0 Service Pack 1 or higher * Video: 256 colours and 800x600 resolution * Please note Windows 2000 is not supported. You will need to upgrade to one of the operating systems above to use O2 Mobile Broadband. * Mac: Mac OS X: 10.4 or higher * Hard Drive Space: 64MB * RAM: 1GB Tip: If you're unsure as to what operating system you have then you can usually find out by looking under 'Start / Control Panel / System'.

Network coverage
:- Finally, remember to check the network coverage in your area (or the area you'll be using when travelling with your dongle) to ensure you have sufficient coverage before you buy. O2 Broadband Packages


O2 Home Broadband and Home Phone are subject to availability and you need O2 Home Broadband to get O2 Home Phone. There's a 30 day or 12 months minimum term contract and you have to pay by direct debit. 3 months free broadband offer ends 30 November 2010, and is only available on 12 month contracts. If you choose the 30 day option there's a connection charge. These prices include a £5 discount for O2 mobile customers (unless it specifically says they're for everyone). If you're on Pay & Go, you must top-up a £10 minimum every 3 months to keep your discount. Our fair usage policy applies. If you take any Bolt Ons there are some terms. Telefónica O2 U.K. Limited (previously Cellnet Limited and BT Cellnet Limited and branded as O2) is the second largest provider of broadband internet access and telecommunications in the United Kingdom, behind Everything Everywhere.Its national headquarters are located in Berkshire and it is a privately owned subsidiary of Telefónica.Between 1985 and 1989, John Carrington was the CEO of British Telecom's Mobile Division. It was during this period that Carrington founded Cellnet, and launched the companies first cellular service in January 1985. was established as a subsidiary of Telecom Securicor Cellular Radio LLC, a 60:40 joint venture between British Telecommunications and Securicor respectively.


After months of rumours and speculation, Peter Bonfield publicly announced on 27 July 1999 that BT had agreed to buy Securicor's 40 percent share of Cellnet for £3.15 billion. The company was later rebranded as BT Cellnet, and it became a part of BT Wireless, a group of companies owned by BT. Cellnet had 5 million customers at the time of its acquisition.





BT Cellnet was rebranded as "O2" on 1 May 2002, along with other former BT subsidiaries; Esat Digifone in Ireland, Viag Interkom in Germany and Telfort Mobiel in the Netherlands. The rebranding was supported with a European advertising campaign, which began on 16 April 2002, across all four countries, at a cost of £130 million. The main launch campaign ran from 1 May and was developed by Vallance Carruthers Coleman Priest, working alongside brand consultancy Lambie-Nairn, whom created the "O2" brand identity.
